Dear Fellow Crockers:
Hope I am posting to the right address to share.
Here is what I know of my Crocker family--a recent addition to
my tree.
Arthur Crocker born before 1770 married Elizabeth Wakefield born
(almost certainly daughter of
Henry Wakefield and Elizabeth Alexander) before 1780 in Burke Co NC.
Guessing marriage date
to be early 1790's and most likely in GA. From GA the family is
assumed to have gone to TN,
then St. Clair Co IL before Shelby Co IL by late 1820's. Arthur and
wife both died after 1830,
probably in Shelby Co IL. Arthur may have had a brother John who had
wife Rachel.
Children:
1. Edith born abt. 1794 in GA married Jacob Brewer and died after
1850
2. William born abt. 1797 in GA married Nancy (poss. 2nd wife) and
died after 1850
3. John born abt. 1800 in GA married Polly and died after 1850
4. Jeroushia born April 4, 1808 prob GA married May 28, 1826 in
Fayette Co IL William Hooper
and died Nov 20, 1843 in Shelby Co IL. (Jeroushia and William
are my ancestors)
5. Keziah Matilda born abt. 1810 (one record says VA but I doubt it)
married December 1828 at
the Boiling Springs, Cold Spring Twp., Shelby Co IL James Carson
6. Thomas Crocker died Shelby Co IL
7. Clark Crocker no other info
Have proof of some of above but not all. Some info just given
to me by a Hooper relative.
A history of Shelby Co IL includes the anecdote that Keziah's mother
refused to let her daughter
marry at home, stating that other daughters had run away and married
against her will, and she
now would not permit Keziah to marry at home. For that reason, I
assume that Edith married
elsewhere also but don't know where. Fayette Co, where my Jeroushia
married is "next door" to
Shelby Co.
Associated surnames from NC and GA (maybe earlier from PA) were
Wakefield and
Bankson. All these are my greatgrandfather's ancestors. Strangely,
looking at the lists of names
submitted by others, I find some of my greatgrandmother's
ancestor/collateral family names, some
of which wound up in Shelby Co, including Bryant, Sellers, McDaniel
(aka McDonald), Wait(e).
Would like to pursue further connections. Will share all info freely.

Have asked someone to look for Sangamon Co IL data for another
Crocker researcher
who seems to have a Wakefield connection. No reply yet.
SHERRY
