Following up TexAnn's discussion, Anthony Bates was Martha Bates Crocker's
father, the Martha Crocker that married Mark Crocker. So could have been
the same Anthony Bates, they lived in the neighborhood.

1. Martha Bates married Mark Crocker, son of William Crocker Sr. and
Nancy Ann Burks, at SC. She died at TN. She was born in 1798 at
Spartanburg Co.

--- 2nd Generation ---

2. Anthony Bates married Elizabeth Howard, daughter of Benjamin
Howard. He was born in 1774. He died on 17 Feb 1842 at Spar. Co, SC.

3. Elizabeth Howard married Anthony Bates. She died.

--- 3rd Generation ---

6. Benjamin Howard died.

"Saturday July the 18th Day 1812
In conference the Church took up the case or report against Brother Whitby
Sally Toneys evidence against Nathan Whitbey on the above case or report.
She says that Nathan Whitby told her that Elisha Poole said to Nathan
Whitbey at Anthony Crocker that it had laid with his mind for some time to
talk with with (sic.) Anthony Bates Woman and he and he (sic.) Said that
Jacob Lands [Shands?] made answer and with the old hen Samuel Whitbey said
with the Chickens two Brother Solomon Crocker and Sister Ann Pettits
Evidence I did not take down. The Church after hearing all the Evidence in
the above case finds Brother Whitbey Guilty of departing from the truth—but
from the request of two of the Members to the Church of Some acknowldgments
to weight with him until our next meeting the Church agreed to do so
