Examination of Francis Prewt of Ottery--Thomas Crocker,William Mitchell and
John Watts were taken before Sir Edward Hext on the 16th and 31st of Oct.
1618,.It was in reference to the procedings of Owen Evans in endevoring to
press
maidens to be sent to the Bermudas and to Va.That same bred such terror
as above that forty women fled out of the Parish of Ottery,and were not yet
found
that he threatened Prewt should answer his conduct in another place ,if he
failed
that Thomas Crocker should be hanged in the morning if he failed to press him
some maidens,and that Mitchell compound some with Evans for ten shillings to
be free
and that Evans give John Watts four shillings to press him four maidens and
free
them to him at Strbone Co.Dorsett ??????
