Hi Crocker cousins:

I have still not found my connection to Machias Maine, but I have found
that I may have the name wrong and that I do know have a pretty close
birthdate. Also I thought I would share with you the on-line resource
that I am using from China. I think it is a great start especially for
research from afar and I suspect many other agencies in other places may
have something similar, be working on developing something similar, or
maybe ought to become aware of this approach. :)

Back to my search:
I am now looking for a Samuel Crocker born about 1847 in and around
Machias Maine. Maybe his name was officially Simeon as I have understood
it to be but the death record is for a Samuel.

I have gotten another lead from the BC Gov't Archives which are on-line.
I believe I have found the index listing of my GGF's Death Record. I will
paste it in here as I seem to have a conflict between this recorded name
"Samuel" and the name "Simeon" which is what I understood his name to be
from family oral history. It is tough because he died while my GF and his
sibling's were still children. It has his age at death as 52 so I figure
he was born about 1847 in Machias, Maine.

BTW: You may be interested in taking a look at the BC Gov't Archives
on-line. They may be a model for other agencies thinking about doing
something like this. In fact it may be something genoelogy organizations
can lobby for. The URLs are:

Vital Statistics are the interesting resources for most of this work.
check them out if you have WWW and a spare moment they are interesting. I
know British Columbia is a long way away but it is at least close via the
Internet.

Bye,
Gary
