Gary -- I checked the map... Arthur is located in Devon, but Duram...
presumably Durham... is located in Durham County... a long way northeast of
Devon County ... seems odd! And another thing that seems odd to me is that
the Virginia Crockers are reputed to have come from Devon... yet live in an
area called Isle of Wight in the state of Virginia, USA. This area is not
an island by any description... nor does it seem to be connected to any
nearby Isle that might have been called the Isle of Wight because it
reminded the new arrivals of the island off the southern coast of
Dorset/Devon counties in England... called the Isle of Wight.
Has anyone ever done any investigation about the name of the Virginia
Colony?
