Thanks., Nona, and I agree with you. 100%! The hang up for me is that IF
someone sent me information and I used it and published it, and someone
whose information I had published got stung... there's no reason that stung
person wouldn't be looking for someone to blame.
In our litigious society... it's something to be concerned about. I don't
put my home address on the list or tell people I don't know when I'm going
off for the weekend or taking a trip to the moon. I don't order over the
net unless I KNOW the company is reliable and that company has a secure
site.
Frankly, I have no great concern about my own "privacy" on the net... I
don't write things -- even to friends -- that I think might be of any
interest to anyone except the person to whom I've addressed the letter. Nor
do I get into "chat rooms" -- I really can't be bothered... I tried a
couple once or twice and was bored to death. On the other hand, I've "met"
some delightful people through the List, and enjoy our exchanges.
What I would like is for everyone to be honest and upright... (SURE!) but
you and I weren't born yesterday, and we know that's not how things are. I
can't afford to defend myself in any law suit, no matter how frivolous.
That's what COULD happen... and I don't want to be the defendant in any
such action. Somebody wants to look over my cyberspace shoulder?... go
ahead! I've nothing to hide...
What do some of the rest of the people on the net think about this? Is
there a way I can get everyone who might send me information to "sign a
release" holding me harmless? I bet it would not fly.
Is what is on the net copyrighted? Some say yes, some say no.
We don't have any RULES yet... or if we do, my lawyer doesn't know what
they are yet.
Does YOURS? Have the rest of you "Listies" any input for me?
Mass hysteria -- isn't what I want to see -- but I feel a certain caution
is in order.
I appreciate your position... and hope you appreciate MINE!
