Hello all...
First, a note re the spelling of Whittier...in Nova Scotia, Canada (prior to 1850) Whittier was often spelled Withear.
John Whittier of Fairfield/Norwald/Sharon - Conn. was a clock and bell maker.
He had a son, Benjamin...b abt 1738 (Conn) who married twice and had 14 children.
Benjamin joined the Royal Emigrants (84th Regiment) after 1779.
His first marriage was to Sarah Bulkley in 1764. She was b June 6, 1742 and died before 1784.
Their first child, Benjamin Jr. was b abt 1772 in Connecticut.
Benjamin and Sarah moved to Nova Scotia.
On March 23, 1810 -- Benjamin Whittier, Jr., together with his brother Richard Atwood Whittier and Daniel Crocker received a land grant in Rawdon, Nova Scotia.
Records in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia claim Benjamin Whittier, Jr. married MARY CROCKER of Parrsboro on November 14, 1815. Mary is the daughter of Elijah Crocker, my gr-gr-gr-grandfather. She had a brother, Daniel, so I'm trying to find documentation that the Daniel who received the grant was a brother to Mary.)
One source ("Rawdon & Douglas: Two Loyalist Townships in Nova Scotia" by John Victor Duncanson) says..."the identity of Mary has not been established".
Duncanson also suggests the Daniel who received the grant MAY have been connected with Private Michael Crocker (reference:Craig, C.L. - The Young Emigrants)
If there's a WHITTIER (Withear) connection in your tree that might connect with the above....I'd appreciate hearing from you !
Many thanks.
