I just returned from a day in the courthouse at Clarkesville, Habersham County and the Habersham County Library. John and Nancy Crocker's daughter Harriet L. Crocker married William E. Jenkins in Habersham County on 22 Nov 1842, and they are both buried in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, which is located just north of Clarkesville. Census records show that Harriet L. Crocker was born in SC in 1816. There is an LDS record for a John and Nancy Lippens marriage date of 1800, but there was a question about whether the marriage occurred in Franklin Co., GA. Did someone assume that since they lived in Franklin Co., GA, they must have married there? Was this the John and Nancy who married in SC and moved to Franklin Co., GA, after the 1816 birth of their daughter Harriet L. Crocker and before the 1825 tax list of Franklin Co., GA?

I found Franklin Co., GA, Tax Digests, showing John and his son William H. and a Lemuel Crocker.

I found John and William and Lemuel Crocker being taxed in Franklin Co., GA, as follows:
1825: John Crocker
1826: John Crocker
1827: John Crocker and for William Crocker
1828: John Crocker and for William Crocker
1829: John Crocker and for William H. Crocker
1830: William H. Crocker and for John Crocker
1831: John Crocker
1832: John Crocker
1833: John Crocker and for self and John Clements and J. Farrar and for Abraham Abels and for William Crocker
1834: John Crocker and for William Crocker
1835: John Crocker and for William Crocker
1836: Wm. F. Scroggins for John Crocker and for William Crocker
1837: John Crocker for Lemuel and William Crocker
1838: William H. Crocker and for John Crocker
1839: John Crocker: No Poll (Over age 60?) and for William Crocker and Lemuel Crocker

I show that John Crocker was born in SC about 1778. If that date is correct, he would have reached 60 years of age in 1838. The above tax record seems to prove that, as he was not taxed in 1839. Joseph T. Jenkins thought that he was the son of Solomon Crocker, but I do not believe this is correct. Solomon Crocker's son John was not born until 1803. I am wondering if John Crocker born in SC in 1778 was the son of Arthur and Mary Crocker.

I would be happy to share info with anyone who thinks this may be their family.
