Hi Barbara,
According to "The Handy Book for Genealogists" - 9th edition - Published by
The Everton's Publishers, these are the census available for CT:
Federal Census - 1790, 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880,
1900, 1910, 1920
State/Territorial - Census 1670..
Looks like your answer is "No, not earlier than 1790".....
