Wells is a Deerfield name......have you tried the town clerk of Deerfield ?
Another possiblity is the Old Deerfied Musuem located in Old Deerfield (still part of Deerfield) and the zip code for Deerfield is 01342......I think you'd do well to try the Old Deerfield
Musuem to start with as you may hit the jackpot as I said, Wells is an .."Old Deerfield" surname.
