Dear Joyce,

Regarding the tombstone, see this link about the Hale Collection of CT
Cemetery Inscriptions. They are available at the CT State Library in
Hartford but also on microfilm through the LDS.

One of his sons, not the eldest son but my direct ancestor, later was legally appointed a guardian. Can anyone help me understand what conditions would cause a guardian to be appointed and what a guardian would then do?

If there's an angel out there willing to go looking for me, I can provide full name, birth and death dates. Thanks so much for any help.
