Using Special Schedules of the US Census for Genealogy
On Wednesday, January 13, at 7 p.m., genealogy expert Nora Galvin will
address the Genealogy Club of Newtown on the topic of using special
schedules of the US Census for researching nineteenth-century ancestors.
She will present an overview of the detailed agricultural, industrial,
manufacturing, mortality, and social statistics available in these
special forms, which can help family researchers trace the lives of
ancestors in Connecticut and other states. She will also show examples
of specific information in these records and demonstrate how to locate
this type of data.
Nora Galvin is a professional genealogist in Bridgeport, Connecticut,
and the owner of Aunt Lizzie's Trunk. In addition to serving as
treasurer and membership chair of the Connecticut Ancestry Society, she
is a member of the Board of Governors of Connecticut Society of
Genealogists and other professional organizations.
The club's 2010 program continues on the evening of February 10, when
Matthew Bielawa will be the featured speaker. His presentation will be:
"Tracing Immigrant Ancestors from Central and Eastern Europe."
All meetings of the Genealogy Club of Newtown take place in the
community room of the C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, in Newtown.
Visitors and new members are always welcome. For additional information
please call Harlan Jessup, 203-270-7887.
