Hi, All,
I've got a couple of books and would be happy to do look-ups:
"Genealogy of the Gallup Family" by John D. Gallup, 1893. It has more
information on some individuals and families than others, and he admits
that information came in when the book was ready to go to press...but it
is a great book.
I have to tell you the nice story behind this book. When I first
activated my website, I was posting my surnames and URL anywhere I
could. I posted with Irene Hand's surname forum, and she e-mailed me
the next day. She had purchased this rare book for $5.00 at a yard
sale, just to salvage it. She'd been waiting for the Gallup name to be
posted to her site, and all she wanted in return was reimbursement of
the $5.00 plus P&H. Only a fellow genealogist would be so generous!
By the way, I have a link to Irene's site from my webpage.
The other book I purchased will do me no good, because it covers New
London County in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and my ancestors moved
away in 1778! It is "A Modern History of New London County,
Connecticut, Volume III" published by the Lewis Historical Publishing
Company, 1922. I'm going to keep it just because it's such a nice old
book and I love books. It contains biographies of the prominent men of
that time and place. If you think your ancestors fit that description,
I'll be happy to check the index.
Our numbers are growing! I think at last count we had about 70
subscribers. Spread the word!
