Pat et al,
I've been reading some of the responses to you query about changing the
configuration of this list. It appears some don't really understand what
will happen. Hopefully I can clear up some misunderstandings and not cause
more.
As it is now:
When the "Reply" button in ones E-mail program is selected, it will send
only **one** reply to the list. appears in the
TO: header of the reply.
When the "Reply All" button in ones E-mail program is selected, ** two **
replies are sent to the list. appears in both the
TO: and the Cc: headers of the reply.
If it is changed:
When the "Reply" button is selected, it will still only send ** one **
reply to the list - just like before - nothing changed here.
When the "Reply ALL" button is selected, it will send a reply to the list
and another reply to the original poster. will be
in the TO: header and the address of the writer of the posted message will
be in the Cc: header.
As someone has said:
>>No, I like it the way it is.. respond to the list only.
>>I don't need two messages in response to a query. Answers to the list
can be read by the poster there; unless it's a personal message -
which is rare.<<
It stays that way when the "Reply" button is selected - still only one
reply sent out and that is to the list. The only change is when someone
selects their "Reply All" button. Now many of us are on many genealogy mail
lists. For instances I'm on Northeast, GenMassachusetts, Gen Connecticut,
Mansfield Co., CT, Windham Co., CT, EssexCo MA, PlymouthCo MA, etc.... All
these lists are configured to have the "Reply All" send replies to the list
and to the originator. Most of us on these list automatically want a reply
to go directly to the original writer so that our answer to them is not
lost in the flood of Mail list E-mail or in a Digest version. However, this
has caused duplicate replies to be sent to lists that are not set up that
way. When we select "Reply All" in lists that are not configured in that
way it sends 2 replies to the list - taking up valuable webserver real
estate at Rootsweb.
