I'm coming from Rhode Island in two weeks to look for New London County
records, Colonial times. where would the best place be to check vital
stats
from 1650-1850 be located? Looking for Williams, Burrows, Averys, &
Chesebroughs amung others.
Also looking for Native American vital stats from this area and time
frame as
well.

Trish: If you have a membership card in a CT Genealogy Society, you'll
be able to look up original vital records at the Town Clerk's office
(although the early records there are a real mess!). If you have no CT
membership card, you can still go to the Probate Office in the Town Hall
to copy probate records. You can look at land records in the clerk's
office without a card.
The Public Library, at the top of State Street (or maybe they call it
Captain's Walk still) has a genealogy room with lots of books. It is
well worth a stop.
The Historical Society, 11 Blinman St, is worth a visit. They
recommend calling before coming to do research. 1-860-443-1209.
Another idea would be to go to the LDS center in Mystic. They have
New London county films on permanent loan.
Have fun!! There's lots of restaurants right on State St in New
London, so you don't need to worry about food at least!!
One word of caution...records are kept individually by town, so you
may find yourself running from town to town.
