Mike,

This information comes from my reference book, History of Norwich, by Frances
Manwaring Caulkins. It may be of interest to your Thomas Bliss research.

Chapter 9, page 130, speaks of the Post and Gager Burial Ground which was
on the home lot of Thomas Post. Sarah, his wife, was buried on the home
lot in 1661. She is assumed to be the first person to die after the settlement
of the town. This ground was appropriated by the town authorities, and
became the common burial place for the town inhabitants. After the year
1700, very few interments took place in this burial ground. The Post home
lot remained in the family for 125 years, then was sold in 1775 by Joseph
Post of Lebonon to Ezekiel Barrett. A clause was included in the sales
agreement to allow passage to the old burying ground. Not until forty years
after the settlement of the town, was new burial ground opened for interments.
For that reason, Thomas Bliss, (who died in 1688), and his son Thomas Bliss
Jr. (who died in 1681), are thought to be interred there. Regretfully there
are no identifiable markers for those who were buried in the old burial
ground./
