Did I every write to you about these same people in the forwarded post?
my son, Jeff Guy & I were researching them last winter -- at any rate,
I intended to. One family moved to RI (Westerly area ???) and a
Marriage with a RICH that settled further west in CT than Preston, but
close enough to be famil! Jeff didn't anyuthing on the son, William
Green, in John's Will) I'll pull out papers as I have a FILE on them.
Sourse was a WFT file and etc. SEE below is sa letter to NUTREG with
basics!

A SHOT in the DARK!!!! This would be from ".and Other GREENE's of
the
World......." of the book by Frank L. Geene.

I am going to post "William Greene" found on FTM's WFT Vol 3 Tree 4900
This William was born in an appropriate time; his father John born in
England & died in RI and his mother died in Charlestown, RI.
LOOK:at sister, Abagail Green, born in Salem, MA, married Nickllolas
Rich,
Jr. and she died in Farmington, Hartford, CT.

Our William Green, father of John Green, 1701, Stonington; and this
John's
first wife was Mary RICH with 2nd wife Elizabeth __________. I descend
from
John & Elizabeth as does Sally Cox. Could this be the same RICH family
that
William's sister, Abigail married in to?

Dear List,

I've been researching my GREEN of Preston, Connecticut line off and on
for a
few years. I just picked it up again and looked at it from a different
angle, and I think I may now be on the right track! I'm hoping someone
on
this list may be familiar with some of these names and may be able to
refer
me to resources which will help me to further my research.

My earliest known ancestor in my GREEN line is William Green of Preston,
CT.
I have no information on his birth or marriage. The name of his wife,
to my
knowledge, is not known. William Green died 03 February 1767 in
Preston,
CT. The earliest records I have found of him pertain to his first five
children, whose birth records are found in Stonington, CT. vital
records:

ELIZABETH GREEN, b. 24 February 1699/00, Stonington, CT.
JOHN GREEN, b. 12 May 1701, Stonington, CT.
WILLIAM GREEN, b. 06 January 1701/02, Stonington, CT.
JABEZ GREEN, b. 19 August 1703, Stonington, CT.
ANN GREEN, b. 07 March 1704/05, Stonington, CT.

(I know from William Green's will that he also had children Mary, Sarah,

Timothy and Abigail.)

William Green's eldest son, John, married MARY RICH, 02 June 1724. This

marriage is recorded in the records of the First Congregational Church
of
Griswold, CT. (Griswold was set apart from Preston). Although I haven't
yet
researched Mary Rich, several sources, including the LDS IGI, reference
her
as "of Wenham, Essex County, Massachusetts". Other sources list her as
the
daughter of NICHOLAS and ABIGAIL (GREEN) RICH of Wenham (or Salem),
Massachusetts.

Interestingly enough, Mary Rich's mother, Abigail (Green) Rich is listed
in
the IGI and other sources as being the daughter of JOHN and MARY
(WARREN)
GREEN of Salem (or Wenham), Massachusetts, born 22 February 1660/1.
Abigail
Green died in Preston, Connecticut "before 21 October 1726".

It seems very likely that Abigail (Green) Rich may have been a sister of
my
ancestor William Green of Preston. They certainly would have been
contemporaries, since William Green died in 1767 and probably was not
born
before 1667. In fact, according to the IGI, a son, William, born ca.
1673-75, was born to John and Mary (Warren) Green. If this is true,
then my
ancestor, John Green (son of William), married his first cousin, Mary
Rich,
which probably was not unheard of in the early 1700s.

In addition, the naming patterns of the children of William Green of
Preston, CT. and the children of John and Mary (Warren) Green of Essex
Co.,
MA. are very similar. They both named their children Abigail, William,
Elizabeth, John, Ann/Hannah, Mary, and Sarah.

I would be most grateful if anyone on the list could direct me to other
resources from which I might learn more about these families. I've
already
looked fairly thoroughly through Preston and Griswold, CT. records on
the
Green line. Is there a Green or Rich genealogy that I should refer to?
Any
information will be greatly appreciated.
