He was my great, great grandfather. Does anyone know where he was born or who his parents were? He married Sarah Palmer, who was born in White Plains, Westchester County, New York in Manhattan on Dec. 27, 1831 at a Methodist Church. He had Grace Alger (born 1833-4 at Stockbridge, Mass.) who died unmarried in 1899 and Charles Alger (born Feb. 22, 1836 at Stockbridge, Mass.) by Sarah. They were divorced in 1868 and Charles married Marie Louise Molt who was at least 30 years younger than he was. They had a daughter Lucile Alger, born Oct. 10, 1870 or 1871 at Norwich, Conn. She died Dec. 24, 1936, unmarried, at Great Neck, L. I., New York.
Also does anyone know if the 29 Broadway, Norwich, Ct. house of Charles C. Alger and Marie Louise Molt is still standing? He owned it at his death in July 1874 when he died in New London, Ct. Charles C. Alger was a big art collector and some people that I am in touch with are interested in knowing the whereabouts of his collection.
I am descended from his son Charles Alger. I would greatly appreciate any information that might be forthcoming. Thanks.
Barbara Alger Farrand Doxey
