Subject: Jose Guinot and his wife, Banca Fonseca
Date: Mon, 5 Jul 1999 11:07:01 -0700
I am seeking genealogical information on Jose Guinot. He died 17 Sep
1898 in Campachuela.
I have information from the following resources:
1.) Diccionarios Biografico Cubano, Vol 11 by Fermin Peraza Saracusa
2.) Periodicos Mambises by Modesto Tirado Garcia
3.) Oriente Heroico by R. Gutierrez
However, these sources deal with Jose's role in the Spanish American
War, but there is little information on his parentage. Jose was born in
Habana of Spanish parents from Catalonia.
He became a teacher in Campachuela and left with many of his student to
fight the Spanish in the Sierra Maestras. He also published "La
Independencia", a small newspaper during those war years.
I understand he was also a sculptor and some of his work is in Colon
Cemetery in Habana.
He married Blanca Fonseca. Her parents may have been Mariono Fonseca
and Andrea Heredia.
Does anyone have any information on his parents or his souse's family?
