My suggestion would be that EVERYONE adopt the two-surname system, where
individuals would carry both the paternal and maternal surnames. Whether
the mother's would be second or first doesn't matter, as long as all agree
to a uniform system.
Mothers are just as important as fathers and their surnames should be borne
by their children.
The Anglo obssession with saving time and computer space (the latter of
which was the root cause of the Y2K disaster) is evident in the system of
having only one surname.
