I have thought for many years about starting a movement to change the surname
situation in the USA. I just don't know how......It seems to me, people are
born from two people (a mother and a father) there are two families involved
in the new life. Why would anyone dishonor their mother by not taking her
surname? I believe the custom of taking the husband's surname, most have
come from a strong man dominated society of many years ago. The women were
looked upon as a man's possession.
Many young Cuban-Americans are choosing to at least keep their father's
surname when they marry.
