I am seeking information on this topic also. One of our family surnames is
"Penton," which was believed to be of French origin. However, as a result
of research on the Internet, I have learned recently that it may be of
English origin, although some sources indicate that it is Scottish.

If you have any information on this surname, I would appreciate a reply.
