Hi all,
I had a bit of incredible luck the previous weekend that I'd like to share
with you and that may be of assistance. At the recommendation of my
great-aunt, I visited a very distant relative (who I had never met)to
consult about one of our branches that I thought had hit a brick wall. This
branch is from Bayamo which was burned around 1868, along with all it's
records. As it turns out this very gracious near 90 year old gentleman had
his father's birth certificate. The grandparents on his father's birth
certificate are my Great-Great-Great-Grandparents! I now have a "new"
surname to check out which is Nobregas or Nobrega. They were from the Bayamo
area as I mentioned but maybe from Manzanillo specifically.
Does anyone have any info on this name? I didn't find it in Jaruco and I've
only seen it in family histories a few times. If someone has Levi Marrero's
"La Isla Abierta" (I think that's the name) could you please check the name
for me?
Another little bit of "icing on the cake" was that one of the witnesses
listed in the birth certificate (not a baptismal certificate) was my
Great-Grandmother who I thought was from Bayamo. The certificate listed her
as "natural" from another city which means there's a glimmer of hope in
finding her documents.
Moral of the story, talk to every last member of your family, no matter how
distant and be sure to pry for as much details or documents as possible!
And...don't give up hope!
Thanks for letting me share and I hope someone can help me with my "new"
surname.
Eddie
