Subject: [CUBA-L] Looking for Birth Records

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the list and just starting to research this very unusual record
about my grandmother.

She was from Suriname, South America, but on a birth record of her first
child, my uncle, "Havanna, Cuba" is listed as her birth place.

I have an extensive genealogical history of my family in Suriname, so this
discovery has me seeking verification.

Her birth would have taken place in 1880. She is descendant of a Dutch
plantation administrator and a plantation slave (according to archival
records). I have not been able to locate her birth record in either
Suriname or Holland. We know our lineage is European and "Indian"
(Amerindian or Native American). I know from historical data that the
Europeans in colonial plantations had liasons with many women and that
these administrators traveled the Caribbean.

Any advice for me on this?

Thank you.

Marie
