Subject: [CUBA-L] Rumbaut Family

Hello everyone,
This is my first time posting, so forgive me if I'm not very clear and concise. I am looking for the family of my great-great grandmother Charity. I am not positive about the spelling of her last name. For every different place I have looked, there is a different way of spelling it. It has been spelled Rubante, Rumbante, Rumbarut, and Rumbaut. I think Rumbaut may be the correct spelling, so I am going to try searching for information using that name. Charity was born in 1866 and all her death certificate says is Havana, Cuba. She came to the US in 1885 or 1888 (it hard to read the handwriting). The story goes that she came with my grandmother Sarah Amelia, who was born December 7, 1886. There is also the mention of another daughter, named Amelia, who for some reason did not come to the US with her. Charity lived in Philadelphia, PA until her death December 13, 1933. She married a James L. Smith, who was almost 20 years older than her and had 6 more children, !
Erin, Randolph, Lawrence, Reita, Mary, and Louisia.
I would appreciate any information that anyone may have as well as suggestions for other places to look for information. I don't think she became a US citizen, so I'm not sure where else to look.
Thank you,
Kimberly Marshall
