The next step is to write or contact the parish in Matanzas in which the key life event, in this case the baptism, of your ancestor took place. It is also highly likely that the marriage of his parents took place in the same parish as his baptism. If the baptism certificate indicates that the paternal or maternal grandparents were also from the parish, search for their death certificates. In summary your search should now focus in the parish in which the baptism took place. Please remember that parishes in Cuba are short staffed; it is recommended that your correspondence is followed by a telephone call or by a visit from a friend or relative still living in Cuba. A contribution directly to the parish, in my opinion, is morally and ethically correct. Good luck.
