There is no mention of a previous marrige , but it doesn`t mean he didn`t married younger.

Usually only the Church authorized " dissolutions" if they were relatives . I have found some cases like that. To get married also if they were related it was supposed to have an authorization by the Church in first or second grade. I don`t know how they classified the relationships but I can read it on the registers from Matanzas Cathedral that are very clear and already translated.

I hope some of the information that I got from books will help you to know better El Lugareno.
He was a real ANEXIONISTA......
Reading the books now I understand the reason for wishing the Anexionism of Cuba to USA...it`s not the way we understand that word right now. It was based on "the Whitening of Cuba".
He was afraid that Spain transported so many slaves to Cuba that it was going to be a revolt like in Haiti and all the Creoles ( criollos ) like him were going to disappear. And the slaves were already revolting and killing his Masters in few places in the island, until Spain took care of the problem'

A very important detail about El Lugareo: He was rich but he lost everything, Spain deported him and took over his properties...BUT HE NEVER HAD AN SLAVE WORKING FOR HIM.
