I don't know where Sumner County is, but my people went from
Whitley/McCreary/Scott to Southeastern Kansas, in the area around
Independence and Elk City between about 1870 and 1890. My great
grandparents were Richard Wilson and Anna Stephens. Many of their
siblings and their spouses also went. Names include Ryan (5 Stephens
siblings married Ryans!) West, Meadors. From there many went to Southern
California, although some are still in Kansas. I have an account of their
journey to Kansas in1873--and their longing and return to Kentucky in about
1878. Later they moved to Kansas permantly.
