Probably the best way to get a grasp of the St Bees situation is
to look at Steve Bulman's site on:
http://www.stevebulman.f9.co.uk/cumbria/stbees.html
As he summarises, St Bees has included Ennerdale, Kenneyside,
Eskdale, Wasdale Head, Hensingham, Braystones, Nethertown,
Middletown, Coulderton, Nether Wasdale, Rottington, Sandwith,
Weddicar and Whitehaven.
The churches you mention are from Whitehaven :

Try to get hold of a map of Cumberland parishes.
Cumberland surnames can be very saturated in a small area. At the
moment, for instance, I'm trying to unravel a small group of 8
adjoining farms with only 4 surnames and at least 10
inter-marriages between 1590 and 1740.
This sort of saturation makes assumptions like " *Joseph
Nicholson marries Deborah Towerson* ah, must be MY Joseph and
Deborah" very dangerous.
