Jim,
I have a poster sized and very detailed map of Whitehaven circa 1830. I
bought it from
Michael Moon (Antiquarian Book Shop),
19 Lowther St,
Whitehaven
Tel 01946 599010.
I think he may still has some copies of the same map for sale.

It shows Harmless Hill to be the steeply rising ground which runs along
the west side of the Market Place. It is now the site of a multi-storey
car park. College Street is near St. Nicholas Church and is between
Church Street and New Street.

Has anyone heard of Harmless hill? That sounds like a name
with an
