Not in Canada, David. You have to change it through a lawyer and
publication for 3 consecutive weeks in 2 newspapers. And it costs quite
a bit.

We don't have a 'Deed Poll' that I know of.......when I worked in law,
we just did the paper work and applied to the Courts for the name
change. Seems folks in financial straits were prone to do this, for
example. So the newspaper publication (plus the Gov't Gazette
publication) was a deterrent.
