Workington Genealogy database - Update 2.01

Greetings from an rather grey, damp and quite windy West Cumbria UK.

Just a quick note to tell you that our search facility on the Workington
Genealogy webpages has recently been upgraded.

You now have the additional option to refine any future search by adding an
initial. For example - if you just know your ancestor had say the initial
"J" - searching this way will now return all entries begining with "J" -
such as Joseph, John, Jeremiah, James, Jane etc. Using this method will
also display those people in the database, who are simply recorded only by
their initials.

In recent weeks we have uploaded many additional entries, and the index now
contains over 26200 persons. You may also be interested to learn that
today the total number of searches performed in the last year has topped
11500. We are absolutely amazed by this activity and thank you all for the
kind comments and feedback.

As many of you are aware the Workington index is just the start of the
Cumbria Yellow History Pages, a major long term internet project to provide
genealogy databases for as many Cumbrian towns and villages as possible.
After twelve months development the software technology is now in place.
Already others databases are in preparation and will be launched this year -
but we are always interested to hear from anyone who has compiled (or about
to start) their own databases, however large or small.

Finally, if you wish to have your email address listed FREE against a
particular Surname in the index - please go to:

Whenever others search for that Surname - they will be invited to contact
you to share family information etc.

Happy searching!

Kind Regards
Richard & Jo Byers
