Hi Listers, I am writing to the list in the hope some kind person will do a lookup on the 1841 census for: JANE BANTAN/BANTON, and her mother ELIZABETH, Jane was born 1832, in Whitehaven or Whicham, (On the 1851 Jane is working as a house servant in Kendal)



Apart from Jane and her mother Elizabeth there does not seem to be any families with the surname Bantan/Banton in Cumberland, Jane and Elizabeth seemed to have been entirely alone. I think Jane may have been illegitimate; maybe Jane was born in the workhouse and possibly lived there.

I would like to check the workhouse records for Jane and her mother, does anyone know

where the records for the workhouse are kept, and were there workhouses in Whitehaven or Whicham?

Any help would be very gratefully received
