died August 14, 1724 in Scaleby Castle, Cumberland, England. He married Mary
Fletcher June 12, 1688 .


(NOTE: ADDED IN HERE: William Gilpin was the gardian of the three daughters
of George Langstaff and Margaret Briscoe. It makes since if Mary was a
Briscoe who married Henry Fletcher, that her nieces would be the wards of
her new husband. )

v.6.Dorothy Gilpin was born unknown in Scaleby Castle, Cumberland, England
and died infancy.
vi.7.Henry Gilpin was born unknown.
vii.8.William Gilpin was born unknown.
viii.9.John Bernard Gilpin was born January 24, 1701 in Scaleby Castle,
Cumberland, England and died March 14, 1776.
ix.10.Dorothy Gilpin was born April 3, 1703 in Scaleby Castle, Cumberland,
England.
x.11.Thomas Gilpin was born August 29, 1706 in Scaleby Castle, Cumberland,
England.
xi.12.Elizabeth Gilpin was born January 2, 1708 in Whitehaven, Cumberland
co., England and died January 2, 1708 in St Nicholas, Whitehaven, Cumberland

William was the gardian of the three daughters of George Langstaff and
Margaret Briscoe, of Carlisle, before their marriages to three of his sons.
Matilda Langstaff (Her father names her as Martha in his will), married John
Bernard Gilpin, b. 24 Jan 1701 at Carlisle, Cumberland, England on 3 Jun
1723,
His son, William Gilpin married Margaret Langstaff, 3 Jun 1723 and George
Gilpin married Elizabeth Langstaff, 28 Jul 1740.

Margaret Briscoe? Gilpin cousins are married to other Brisco's. need to
research these. nlp

No, at this date Mrs was an honorific given to any lady of gentle birth and
demeanour, whether spinster or married - though, on this occasion, it looks
as though the writer is using it in a modern sense.


I don't know offhand about the Gilpin/Fletcher marriage. Henry Fletcher of
Tallentire had married Mary, daughter of William Brisco of Croften; so this
may be his widow. I'm sure I've read this or seen a tree of it somewhere,
but can't find it at the mo. Fletcher is a well researched family - someone
on this list should know.
