Subject: [CURTIS] CURTIS - WILLIAM AND CATHERINE ELIZABETH ?
Date: Thu, 23 May 2002 01:17:59 +0100
hi,
I have found a few more details about my Curtis family, and need some more help!!
I have now found my Great Grandfather was William Curtis, married to a Catherine Elizabeth?
They had children:
Nelli, Fred, Edith (my Gran), Edward, Lilly, Reginald, Hilda, Georgina, Elsie William.
Apparently they originated from Dorset, possibly Sherbourne.
Catherine curtis was born around 1870, and William Curtis lived until he was 101 years old!. Apparently he had a brother and sister and came from a wealthy Curtis family. All three children went to Boarding school, possibly in Dorset, the brother became a Lawyer, the sister a School Mistress, but my G.Grandfather William 'absconded' from the school, and I presume married Catherine Elizabeth ?
They apparently moved around a lot, but the daughter Georgina was born, about 1901/2 in Sherbourne, and was baptised in Sherbourne Abbey. The family also lived in Frome, Radstock and the village that is now under the lake at Chew Valley! They in fact attended Chew Valley school, and church? They also apparently lived in Stokes Croft, Bristol.
In the 30's they moved to Brent Knoll in Somerset, to Middle Street farm where they stayed.
When William left the farm he was In Charge of the Cheese Factory at Brent Knoll??
I desperately need to find out Catherine Elizabeth's maiden name to go any further on my family tree? Has anyone any ideas how I can do that? We have searched free BMD and the 1881 census but its like looking for a needle in a haystack as there are so many William Curtis's
Does anyone know if the Sherbourne Abbey Baptism records are on line? Can anyone check the 1891 census for us to find this family? Can anyone check the Vital Records Index??
We would be so very grateful if anyone could come up with anything, either on the family or on any of the above places I have mentioned.
Regards,
Marlyn Truckle-Wattley
