Hi Pat
Have tried both suggestions but neither work? the only duplicates I have
at present are actually the same person/event submitted to the IGI by 2
different routes so both a justified entry? Still not too sure what i
can do as yet, before committing myself to Th whole amount of data
entry!

Subject: Duplicate Entries in IGI
| Hi Tom and Steve, 2 last suggestions --
|
| 1) Have you tried using the "down arrow on grey button" which appears
| when you highlight the Spouse, then "OK" on family reference box; Edit
| then Save. Then check using "Show Names". If you just try on one entry
at
| least you would know if it works, although it does not give an answer
as
| to why Master index doesn't pick up Spouse in the first place.
|
| 2) In my M/F/H/W field, I have found a few entries that have either M
| or F instead of H or W when the event is M a marriage. They have
| imported like that from the IGI but in these cases, the Spouse is not
on
| the Master Index. Correcting the letter then Save puts the Spouse in
the
| Index too.
|
| Checking my IGI printout, these are entries which were duplicated (I
| tried to amalgamate the duplicate but obviously missed a few or didn't
| notice the significance of the letters). The two entries appear to
have
| been almost identical but on inspection this is the situation in the
| print columns ( A Name is feminine)
|
| Name Spouse M/F/H/W Type Date
|
| A Name B Another F S same
| A Name B Another W M same
|
| Perhaps these have combined to give F M because S not
| recognised. Similarly for the situation when A Name is masculine.
|
| At least I have discovered these now in my entries and can put to
rights
| so thank you but not certain if it will help you. However it may alert
| others to the problems of duplicate entries, possibly even if one
thinks
| they have been amalgamated correctly.
|
| Best wishes Pat
