Hi Noel,
I haven't seen any replies to your query, but they may have gone direct
to you. I am definitely not an expert but have been using Custodian for
a while -- in fact my Gedcom file was imported into the previous version
1.6 with no trouble and then migrated into ll. However as I may want to
add to it, I thought I would look and see if I could work out how I
would do it.
If you open the GEDCOM database (bottom button row), you get a blank
database. "File" then "Import" brings up a box with "Select Import Type"
and in there is GEDCOM. By choosing this and then your filename, I would
expect to import more or less any gedcom file with no problem -- is this
when the error message came up?
If however, for example, you opened the 1881 or 1851 census database,
File then Import -- the Selection choice now has LDS Companion not
GEDCOM -- it is in this case that the file must have been prepared
through the program LDS Companion. Although I haven't used this option,
I tend to think that the chosen output file from LDS Comp. would not be
Gedcom but database or spreadsheet -- however I hope some other person
who has used this method may send further information. Note that the
other census years do not have this option because no LDS disc is
available.
Although LDS Comp. has a Gedcom output, I believe the file generated
must be used in the Gedcom database, as outlined in the Ist section --or
into a FH program. Again perhaps someone else will comment on this.
Hope this helps Pat
