Subject: [CUST] Beginners' questions

As a newcomer to Custodian, may I ask two questions, the
answers to which are probably obvious to more experienced hands:
(i) Is there anywhere to record sources, be they published material,
databases or whatever, that have been searched, and no relevant
material found?
(ii) How do users recommend the family and personal references
be used?
How do users define families? The descendents of a common
ancestor, or the ancestors of a common descendent, a bit of both,
or neither?
The nearest I've come to a thought on personal references is the
system with the German name for (1) me, (2) my father, (3) my
mother, (4) my paternal grandfather etc., etc., which neatly flags up
my own family but rather puts the mockers on using purely
numerical references for anyone else.
