The Cutlips of Cutlip Fork of Little Otter, Braxton County,
West Virginia by George L. Cutlip and Ancil B. Cutlip.

May be available from:

Ancil B. Cutlip

Glenville, WV 26351-1379

Harold may know of this book and I don't believe Ancil has a
computer. He didn't when I saw him sometime last summer.

Cost of the book is $10.00 postage paid.
ISBN: 0-87012-500-1 ... Copyright 1993

This 5.25x8.25 paperback is "Perfect" bound and professionally
typeset. It runs 99 pages in the main text and vi (that's six, if
you don't read Roman numerals) frontis material. A terrible (but,
common) omission is the index. In a book designed to be a
reference book, ya gotta have an index. How else will readers
find "stuff" fast?

This is an effort to record and bring up to date (1990) some
information about a place and a people who share a common
ancestor. The place is Cutlips Fork (the righthand fork) of
Little Otter Creek near Gassaway and Sutton, Braxton County, in
the state of West Virginia of the United States.

The people are the descendants of a George Cutlip who settled
there about 1834. With the information available to us, we have
tried to bring that list of descendants up to 1990 plus a short
narrative regarding the community as we remember it in our
growing-up years of the 1920s and 1930s.

These records include only those Cutlips who are descendants of
George Cutlip who settled on the righthand fork of Little Otter
which flows into the Elk River at Gassaway, West Virginia.

Rod Bias comments:
==========

Pages 1-26 of this slim book begin with a nice history of the
Cutlips Fork area, an out-of-the-way community in an obscure part
of the USA. I would be surprised if any other history of the area
is in print. Written by two brothers who grew up there, the book
tends to the factual and objective rather than maudlin and
sentimental. Even so, their obvious love of there "home place"
shows through. A map of the area is included and a few photos.
Obviously, a great deal of effort, care, and professionalism went
into the production.

Pages 27-95 appear to be a Modified Register (aka "Record")
Report of the descendants of George Cutlip (1809-1883). With no
solid documentation of the parents of this George Cutlip, the
brothers (wisely) kept speculation brief and presented what they
did know to be factual.

A few years back, I received a letter from an Ancil
Cutlip, telling me what he knew about his line and that he had
gone back to George Cutlip who lived on Otter Creek, born 1809,
he had Bible records of this George and his family. He did not
know the father of George. From the info he had given in the
letter, I immediately knew who this George was and since he had
included his phone number I called him, told him what I knew and
he said, "How do you know for sure?" Then I knew he was leaning
toward George and Mary Murphy Cutlip as his George's parents. ...
So I told him that the second marriage of this George gave his
parents as Henry and Mary Cutlip. Then I mailed him my info on
the early Cutlips, as I interpreted it then....
Here is Ancil's line of descent:

[Rod Bias interjection: Even on my large monitor, several lines
run very long. Once this goes through email word wrapping it may
look pretty messy.]
