Say this is itneresting! I can find very little about what the Jobe family
did during the war - especially the sons of Eli B. Jobe and Prudence. I do
know that
-------------
38TH ARKANSAS INFANTRY REGIMENT CONFEDERATES STATES OF AMERICA COMPANY C
"JOBE, T.J. - Enl 19 Jul 1862 at Camp Adams, Randolph Co, AR."
------------
My Jesse Jobe was already dead, and I've always wondered about my great
grandpa, Caleb Jobe. As far as I know he never joined but I'm sure he got
in some home skirmishes as he was born September 4,, 1847 so he was in his
mid teens.
I have no record of his uncle Elijah Jobe having fought - Caleb's uncle and
guardian.
However, I've been handed this story for years regarding the other son,
Jacob Jobe who was married to his cousin, Mary Jane Bailey.
"During the lawless time after the civil war, renegades were raiding Oregon
County and found that Jacob had a fifty cent gold piece. Jacob fought to
keep his gold piece but the raiders robbed him and hung him to a tree. The
renegades left in a hurry. Mary came out of the root shelter and cut the
rope. Although he had rope marks around his neck, he lived for more than 30
years."
-----------
Guys, Have either of you heard anything about this story and was this
'common practice'?
Also interested in the regiment for T. J. 'Thomas J" Jobe fought in - 38th
Ark INF, Company C.
Thanks!
Ann
