Hallo all,

I am new to this list. I´m writing from Germany and I hope somebody can help
me.

I´m searching for my antecendents names SOFSKY. The SOFSKY´s lived for
severall generations in KAMITZ (as of 1939: Grenztal), County NEISSE
(Silesia) [Today Poland, KAMIENICA]. The Town KAMITZ is in immediate
vicicinty to the border of the today CZECH REPUBLIC. In history, this whole
region belongs to AUSTRIA-SILESIA. After the war between Prussia and Austria
the town KAMITZ belongs since 1742 to Prussia. On the other side of the
border -in Austria-Silesia remain the towns WEISSWASSER (BILA-VODA) and
KAMITZ-ÜBERSCHAR (KAMENICKA). So far to the geographical classification.

My oldest ancestor is named IGNATZ SOFSKY. He was born in 1748 in KAMITZ.
Most probably this name was written SCHOFFSKY in former times. Unfortunately
I don´t know, where the SOFSKY´s (SCHOFFSKY´s) came from. Did they came from
Poland, Bohemia or Moravia? Maybe, someone can help me.

As I have heard, the ending ...sky in the name has his origin in Czech
language. Perhaps, someone have some further information. Is somebody
familiar with this name SOFSKY or SCHOFFSKY?

A czech genealogical researcher has the opinion, that the SOFSKY´s
eventually stem from the gentry of the SCHAFFGOTSCH. This family owned land
in this area. The most important member of the gentry was named GOTSCHE
SCHOFF (* 1351). The affinity to the name SCHOFFSKY phonetic sense amazing
in any care.
