Ghi Goo ie means "sweetheart".

I have many Cherokee Ross', Hicks, Coody, Naves, Meigs, Mulkeys, Murrell, Farmer, Goins (Choctaw), Carr (Creek) and others in my direct line.

I have seen Ghi Go Ge Ne Li and Ghi Goo ie (b. 1730) interchanged frequently. According to the information I've found, Ghi Go Ne Li passed down the name from mother to daughter on three successive generations. Mine is attributed to having married William Shorey, who were my GGG-Uncle's, Chief John "Koo-wi-s-gu-wi" Ross' GG Grandparents.

Good luck! I would love to exchange information!

I've not found accurate information anywhere on the net for Moytoy. Are you speaking of the elder one or the younger? The elder was one of the first chiefs recorded in the early British records. He was among the Over-The-Hill Cherokee & working from a often not-so-good memory he lived in the late 1600's to early 1700's.

There is so much inaccurate information out there about the only way to get good info is to delve into the actual records themselves. Those within the possession of the Cherokee themselves.

In researching the Spears family I have run across the following names (?).
Is there anyone who can translate or tell me anything about these names:

O-s-ta-a-te-tle-gi or O-s-to-a-te-tle-gi

Gi-go-ne-li

U-lu-tse

Also what is the best site for information about Chief Amotoya Moytoy?
