The files in the format "yymmdd_Myfamilyname" are the archived files (with date appended to the database name). Archived files are compressed -- that's why they are smaller than your main database "Myfamilyname". All extra "space" is removed during archiving so that only the data itself remains. I always backup my main database. I don't really have a choice, though, because my software's archive feature no longer works. Maybe it would if I reinstalled the software, but I'm too lazy to try it.
