Hello Everybody,
I am a new member of the 'list' and I would like to ask for your help
please.
I am searching for the Birth/Baptismal record of my Gt. Grandfather, Thomas
Fox, who was born abt. 1837. His Father, James Fox, was a Carpenter. His
Mother, Elizabeth, was born abt.1817.
Thomas married Norah Myles,(b.Cork abt.1845,) at St. Saviour's Church,
Jersey, Channel Islands, on 12th March 1864. His place of birth was given as
Clonmel, Ireland. When he joined the Police Force in Manchester on 19th
September 1867, his place of birth was shown as St.Nicholas, Tipperary,
Ireland.
I wrote to Fr. W. Callanan at Ardfinnan, but he could not find Thomas. He
sent me some information about a grave in the churchyard at Tullagmelan,
Grange, which had Fox's, Keeffe's and Foley's on the headstone. I understand
that this church was combined with Derrygrath to form the Parish of Grange.
St. Nicholas Church at Grange was I think joined with two other churches to
form the present parish of Ardfinnan.
Mike Egan in his email 5/2/01 said that all the children of John & Catherine
Egan were born at Carrick on Suir and baptised at St. Nicholas Church. Does
anybody know whether this is the same St. Nicholas Church as the one at
Grange?
I am slightly confused by all the different labels for places. When Thomas
stated that he was born at St. Nicholas would this have been the name of his
Parish Church or of a Parish or Townland? I have been unable to trace St.
Nicholas in the list of Tipperary Parishes.
Many thanks
