In 1847-48 Arthur and Peter HILL left Edenderry for Boston, MA; they
moved from there to Milford,
MA. Their brother, James, lived in Jeansville, PA (Carbon Co) in
1854. These three
brothers had a sister, Catherine (my gg grandmother), who emigrated
from Ireland in May 1855.
She lived most of her life in Beaver Brook, PA (Luzerne Co). She
had two marriages:
1) Dennis McCafferty (1832-1859)
2) Owen Coyle (1825-1885).
The mother of Catherine and her brothers was thought to have the
maiden name of FORAN.
Reportedly, the Forans "disapproved of their daughter's marriage to
Mr Hill (Catherine's father) and
'disowned' their daughter, thus, sending her to the edge of the
family property to
live w/ her spouse". I'm trying to verify where my Hill & Foran
families originated in Ireland. Some
family members have also told me Catherine's family was from Co
Tipperary. If these families or
legends sound familiar I would truly appreciate your reply. Any
help will be most appreciated.
