Subject: Re: Tithe Applotment Books for Cappawhite?

I feel responsible, since I posted the information about the LDS films of the
Tithe Applotment. I evidently didn't make it clear that the records are
organized by Civil Parish, not Catholic Parish. Cappawhite is the name of
the Roman Catholic Parish, which is in the Civil Parish of Toem. So you need
the film with the part of the alphabet that covers Toem.

I was able to identify the correct civil parish by checking the Catholic
parish map in John Grenham's book, Tracing Your Irish Ancestors, and then
going to the Civil Parish map in James Ryan's book, Irish Records, and
corrolating them. This is probably not going to work for everyone, since you
don't have both books. (But we still recommend that you spend the $20 and
buy Grenham's book if you want to do Irish research.)

Someone might be able to give a website that would take you from a religious
parish to a civil parish. I don't know one. I tried searching in
www.seanruad.com, but that searches by townland, and Cappawhite, it turns
out, is not a townland. If it were, that website would have given you a
civil parish, a barony and a poor law union. As it is, all I got was a
"Sorry, no matches found for your query." Can anyone give some advice on
where to go to solve this problem?
