Hi, Terry!
I'm back on-List and just in the nick of time to get your Holiday Greetings.
Also wanted to share some "genealogical happenings," as my son Drew calls
them.
On November 19, I received the sad news that an Eisenhauer sister-in-law had
passed away. I will always miss her. But coincidentally, on the same day,
Drew received a mysterious email that has brought us great joy. Someone
wanted information about me and my husband. Drew was understandably cautious
at first because his father has been dead for over 14 years. Turns out it
was my grandaughter Jessica who was searching for her birth family!
To cut a long story short, Jessica and her brother Christopher were awarded
to their father at the time of my oldest daughter's divorce because he was
better able to provide for them. Then their father turned around quickly and
placed them for adoption. Neither we nor their mother were informed ahead of
time. That was 23 years ago. We thought we had lost them forever.
By another wonderful coincidence Jessica, her warm husband, beautiful baby
boy live just 25 minutes from me down here along the Atlantic coastline. Of
course our family has had a joyful and tearful reunion. And Jessica and I
have called, visited, shared photos, and promised much more.
You are so right. Our Lists are not just about data, names, and dates. They
are also about perservering. And about the range of benefits and knowledge
that we gain on-List. As another example, my grandmother's Walsh-es may have
come from Tipperary Town in the Archdiocese of Emly and Cashel where the
Archbishop has closed the parish records.
Still, without the Irish Lists I wouldn't know where to carry the ball. I
have learned
SO-o-o much about Irish sources and research procedures over there. Have
ordered maps, read the history of our people on the Internet, received good
advice, etc. One day, God willing, I will get to Ireland to see the Parish
Records myself--and complete the story.
Meanwhile, God balances the scales, doesn't He?
'Tis the season of joy and hope.
Rosemary
