Thanks for the O'Brien information Bob.

I know my gr grandparents, Mary Jane O'Brien and Matthew Mason, were married in Newport parish 2/28/1870, but that's the only definate O'Brien information I have! I may have Mary Jane's baptismal record c. 1850 Newport and know that Matthew was from Co. Clare, just a few miles from Newport....I have his entire family recorded. Mary Jane's mother, Mary, along with siblings Patrick Jr. and Delia followed Matthew and Mary Jane to Chicago between 1875 and 1880. There is no indication that Mary Jane's father, Patrick O'Brien Sr. was in Chicago so I'm assuming he died in Tipperary. Haven't yet tried to search death records.............can you imagine how many Patrick O'Briens there were in just Tipperary??!! Before arriving in Chicago, there may have been some time spent in Brooklyn, NY where other O'Briens had immigrated, and this may have been where Patrick Sr. died, but have yet to veryify. At present, what I have are 2 Chicago obituaries stating it was to be copied in!
the NYC
and Brooklyn newspapers c. 1888 & 1900. Neither have I given up!!

Thanks again!
Judie

I lucky enough to see some records in Newport. There was a Honora born to a Patrick Ryan & Catherine O'Brien 1800-12-12 also a Catherine Ryan born to a George Ryan & Anna Brien ( most likely O'Brien ), I don't have the date but it was early 1800. The reason I don't have any more info is I found my Ryan's and didn't look for anything else. My g grandfather was born in 1834, his father was Denis, mother Mary Ahern. I can only assume that the g g grand was born about 1800 1805. I haven't quit yet.

Hello Bob,
Sorry to say it's O'Brien from Newport that I am researching, my gr gr grandparents Patrick & Mary (maiden name unknown) specifically.......the proverbial needle in the haystack and the worst brick wall I've encountered in my research.
Good luck with your Ryan/Ahern research.

Hi Julie, I saw your question about Newport, Tipperary. I have Ryan's &
Aherns from there. I hope you are looking for Ryan's. My g grandfather had a
sister Judy/Julie. I've been there several times, it's a very nice place &
the people are super friendly. If you need any help let me known.
