My gg grandmother and parents LONERGAN (who was a merchant) emigrated Thurles Tipperary appx 1820 for Montreal where they farmed for apprx 10 years, then emigrated south to Pottsville, PA.
I have not yet located their port of entry to Canada, but assuming it to be the Isle in the St Lawrence near Quebec City?), but it could have been Montreal. It does not seem likely to me they would have landed at NS, or Ottawa are since there would have been land trips involved to Montreal. I've not had the time to research Canada immigration since I uncovered this bit of my ancestry, so any known shortcuts would be appreciated.
I'm also assuming their journey to PA was along Lake Champlain and southward.

Dr. Bruce Elliott's book, "Irish Migrants in the Canadas" describes the many
Irish migrants to Canada in this time period most of whom were from
Tipperary.
Two active destinations are the Ottawa valley and the area around London
Ontario.
I have a web site dedicated to this topic at http://teamapproach.ca/irish.
A famous/infamous example of Tipperary immigrants are the Donnellys of
Biddulph Township.

Hello,
Our Hayes , Kennedys, Murrays, Dooleys seem to have come to America about
1830-1845, and some came by way of several years in Canada (according to
Census), then a stint in Chittinden County, Vermont and then on to Clinton
Co., New York. I suppose their few years in Canada would have been in
either New Brunswick or in Quebec. Can anyone suggest possible places in
Canada that Tipperarians went to? Are there records of such places in
Canada?
Thanks,
George

While I know you address this to Mary, I thought since
I have also transcribed this parish but just haven't
found the time, yet, to get it on my website, I'd try
to help answer your question.
First of all, if you think Thos. Martin is an
ancestor, I suggest you check out the LDS Family
History Film #0256691 and see what other information
is related to the entry. Mostly it will have to do
with the property he lived on. I also found a Thos.
Martin in Ballinlassa. May be the same one but
leasing property in two areas. Also I have the date
for the tithe as 1824.
