I have a great-grandmother named Ellen McCarthy who married a Michael Shea,
but I am not sure if they were married before or after they left Ireland. From
Cork.
Story is that Michael dropped the O from his name in this country, but I do
not know if that is true.
They lived in Cuba, New York.
I have suspected that Ellen's parents were Daniel and CAtherine McCarthry who
also lived in Cuba, since they are buried in adjacent plot, and two of the
Shea children were Dannie and Katie. But nothing to prove it.
The names are so common that it is very hard to match up. They all named their
kids the same thing.
